The worst situation was in Pražská, Nemanická or Nádražní Street. “The roads were flooded very quickly and drivers had problems getting through. So far, we have had to go up to twenty in this area by pumping water from the cellars,” said Vendula Matějů, spokesperson of the South Bohemian fire department, after half past four in the afternoon.
She emphasized that the passage is also dangerous, for example, under the viaduct in Nádražní Street. “It’s a common place where water collects,” she noted.
František Vavruška from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute in České Budějovice said that this is a stronger storm that should gradually stop. “Now, 22 liters of precipitation per square meter fell here in half an hour. We have also experienced a stronger storm in the Novohradské Hory before,” stated Vavruška.
Storm clouds move to the northeast during the afternoon. They will not arrive in the east of Moravia and Silesia until the evening. The strongest storms should be in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.
