The engineering consulting company, AguaConsulta, carried out an analysis about the situation with tropical storm Sara, which according to the monitoring carried out by the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh), an increase in rains for the weekend in the departments of Izabal and Peten with accumulations of rain of 20 to 50 millimeters.

With the increase in the number of rains, it is estimated that basins and sub-basins near the Motagua River will increase their water levels, causing the river to overflow, causing flooding in the municipality of Morales, in the department of Izabal.

It is also expected that the rains reported on November 15 will cause the waves around the coasts of the Guatemalan Caribbean to increase considerably for the weekend and part of Monday, November 18.

SARA’S ADVANCE THROUGH GUATEMALA

According to the analysis of Sara’s trajectory, it is estimated that the speed of the storm will be reduced by November 16, due to the collision it will have against a cold front recorded coming from the north.

«It’s not just Sara, but also iota and eta, as well as mitch. The cold fronts limit Sara’s speed, which is why its movement is very slow,” said Cesar Castañón during the presentation of the analysis.

Along with the cold front, the storm is expected to become a tropical depression for the Guatemalan territory, when it comes into contact with Belizean soil. Sara’s arrival in Belize is estimated to occur during the early morning hours of November 17.
