Last night, Storm Pia pushed large amounts of water through Kattegat from the north, which is leading or has already led to very high water levels this Friday. Locally there may be a 20-year high with values of around 1.5 meters above normal.

On Friday morning the tide was already peaking in the central part of the Kattegat Strait, while it will also peak down towards Øresund and the Great Belt towards midday/afternoon.
Due to the exceptional conditions, the Danish Meteorological Institute DMI has issued a level 3 warning for the coastal areas in southern Kattegat. The event is described as “very dangerous” – with historic flooding in some places.
The bridge over the Great Belt is closed for hours
In Roskilde, for example, a water level of 1.6 meters above normal is expected on Friday afternoon, which is likely to be the second highest reading since measurements began in 1992.
In Hornbæk on the north coast of Zealand, where there are also meter-high waves, a water level of over 1.6 meters is expected, which is loud DR.dk also equals a 20-year high. Further notable water levels are expected in Odense Fjord.
Storm Pia had already caused the bridge over the Great Belt (Storebæltsbroen) to be closed for hours at around 9 p.m. on Thursday evening. Fallen trees and damage to infrastructure and houses are widely reported across the country. There was and is a lot going on.
