– The gusts are up to 40 meters per second – that’s a lot, says meteorologist on duty Alexander Skeltved at the Meteorological Institute.

He predicts a gradual increase in the wind, before it becomes at its strongest in the afternoon on Thursday.

– Then there will be a strong storm and perhaps a hurricane in strength!

The meteorologist therefore has a clear appeal to Westerners:

– You should probably moor the boats well, and fasten things properly – no party tents!

– Maybe there aren’t that many party tents in the winter?

– No, maybe not.

The message still stands. Varsom has issued an orange warning for wind. The danger warning states that objects can be taken by the wind or blown over, and that there is a danger to buildings and infrastructure.

“Cancelled departures for ferry, plane or other transport are expected”.

Color Line and DFDS have canceled several of its flights Thursday. The meteorologist says it is also likely that the storm will have consequences for local ferry connections in Western Norway.

Are you going out for a drive?

It could spell trouble for Thursday’s Christmas outing.

– Estimate a very good time, and that actually applies to large parts of southern Norway, says Skeltved.

He says the wind will affect driving conditions in Western Norway, while some snow is expected along the Oslofjord.

– It doesn’t take that much snow before cars have to drive slower. And then there will be more traffic

Skeltved also believes that the mountain crossings will struggle to stay open, as there is, among other things, the danger of snow drifts.
