This is reported by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
– Conditions are difficult both in the lowlands and in the mountains in Western Norway, they write in a press release.
– In the lowlands, there are several places where there are showers of moist snow that freezes when it hits the ground. Slippery roads have been reported on the E16 between Vågsbotn and Indre Arna, the E16 at Borlaug in Lærdal and the E39 at Lund in Rogaland.
Smooth on the coast
High winds and precipitation are reported at high altitudes, and people must be prepared that mountain passes can close at short notice.
And along the coast it is slippery.
– Slippery roads have been reported in several places, the contractors are working on them, but with a lot of rainfall it can be difficult to maintain the standard, says emergency preparedness adviser Henny-Kristin Asperanden Navarsete in the Norwegian Road Administration.
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration asks people to consider whether they can postpone their journey until the weather improves. And it will do that from Friday afternoon.
– We want to encourage people to drive according to the conditions. It’s not about getting there fast, but getting there safely.
Buses on the smooth
West police district reports at 11.30pm about two buses in two different places – in Bergen and Bråtet Bønes – which have major challenges on the smooth road.
– Stands on the ground and holds the brake. As they try to drive, they slip, the police write.
Fortunately, there are no passengers on board.
The police patrol at the scene reports that they are struggling themselves – with four-wheel drive and studded tyres.
– IS VERY SMOOTH IN THE AREA, the police write in capital letters.
Improvement in Eastern Norway
For Eastern Norway, there will be an improvement already from the morning.
– It won’t be the same day as it was today in terms of the snowy weather, says on-duty meteorologist Jan-Erik Brandt to VG on Thursday evening.
He states that Eastern Norway will mostly have partly cloudy weather.
– The eastern areas of Eastern Norway will, however, receive some precipitation of some snow. This applies east of Oslo, Gardermoen and Mjøsa, towards the Swedish border, says Brandt.
The snow on Thursday evening caused problems at Gardermoen where a plane had to be helped by a tow truck. Here there are many delays and canceled flights. Baggage is also delayed.
