With the center of the storm in the Norwegian Sea, the storm “Pia” is heading towards the Norwegian coast.
The whole of southern Norway will feel the storm, but it will be worst in the south-west.
Along the coast of Rogaland and in western parts of Agder, an orange danger warning has been issued for wind gusts of 33-42 meters per second from the north-west on Thursday.
This is reported by the Meteorological Institute at 11.30 am. Previously there was a yellow warning, and the warning has been upgraded.
– From the south of Hordaland to Agder we expect strong gusts of wind from Thursday afternoon. The wind will be strongest in parts of Rogaland and Agder, write Meteorologists at X.
The wind is expected to decrease from late Thursday evening, first in the north.
Meteorologist on duty, Geir Ottar Fagerlid, tells Dagbladet that the wind will eventually move east. Although no danger warning has been issued, the wind will be felt in large parts of southern Norway.
Storm “Pia” on its way to Norway
– It is a large and extensive low pressure, which will affect the whole of Scandinavia, says the meteorologist.
Disappointing news
The forecasts are discouraging for those planning to travel on Thursday.
– It’s not something you want to see right before Christmas. It will affect car traffic and air traffic in large parts of the Nordic region, says the meteorologist.
If you have plans to cross the mountain passes on Thursday, Fagerlid encourages people to think twice.

– Thursday will not be a good travel day if you are going to cross the mountain, as it will be demanding in the whole of southern Norway. It might be a good idea to start today, or wait until Friday, he explains.
Plan your trip
Traffic operator in Vegtrafikksentralen south, Hans Petter Medalen, encourages people to follow weather and traffic reports. This way you can avoid being surprised if it is closed at mountain passes.
According to Medalen, several precautions should be taken if you are going to cross the mountains in the next few days.
– Bring warm clothes, a blanket, drinks and food. Fill up with electricity and fuel, and have good tire equipment, says the traffic operator to Dagbladet.
Trude Lindstad, traffic operator at the Vegtrafikksentralen öst, says that one should prepare that it may take longer to travel on Thursday, due to expected snow.
– Then people slow down, and you have to ease the pressure on the gas pedal. It gets smoother when there is a lot of snow, she tells Dagbladet.
Upgrading the danger warning in Denmark
Denmark’s Meteorological Institute (DMI) has upgraded the storm warning to hurricane-force gusts. Danes reports B.T.
Previously, it was only reported that the west coast of Jutland would be affected, but now they state that the entire north-west coast will feel the strong wind.
They have sent out a danger warning in category 2 – “dangerous weather”.
