Code yellow applies to the whole of the Netherlands on Thursday due to heavy gusts of wind. Storm Pia is moving across our country from the northwest and can cause wind gusts of around 80 kilometers per hour everywhere. Schiphol is canceling more than two hundred flights due to the expected strong winds.
The wind will be strong, especially in the coastal areas. Wind gusts around 90 kilometers per hour are possible there. In the north the wind can even reach speeds of 110 kilometers per hour.
The KNMI warns that damage and danger can arise from breaking tree branches, flying roof tiles or other loose objects.
The code yellow applies until the night from Thursday to Friday. The Wadden area will have a chance of heavy gusts of wind until Friday afternoon.
Schiphol is canceling more than two hundred flights scheduled for tomorrow due to the expected strong winds. This concerns both departing and arriving flights. According to the airport, travelers should also take delays into account.
Code yellow was already in effect in the north of the Netherlands on Wednesday morning. Friesland, Groningen and the Wadden area already had to deal with heavy wind gusts of up to about 90 kilometers per hour. Those wind gusts decreased again during the day. The code yellow was over around noon.
