A 39-year-old woman was seriously injured in the Gelderland village of Wilp on Thursday when a tree fell on her. Storm Pia caused several trees to fall and branches to break. Apart from a hundred cases of damage, no major accidents occurred.
The accident happened at the end of the afternoon. The woman is a care supervisor and was cycling with a client on a duo bike on the Molenallee when the tree fell, reports The Stentor.
The woman from the municipality of Deventer was taken to hospital. The client was slightly injured and has now returned to his living group.
The safety region reports that the cycle path is closed due to several fallen trees. According to a spokesperson, it is a long road with many trees.
In North and East Gelderland, streets have been closed off in a few places because trees and branches caused dangerous situations. Apart from the injured woman, no major incidents have yet been reported during storm Pia.

Storm damage and some traffic jams
Storm Pia has been raging across our country since Thursday evening. The KNMI has issued code yellow due to the storm. This applies until midnight in the coastal provinces.
According to the fire brigade in Twente, all municipalities in the region have reported storm damage and nuisance. These are often fallen trees. The fire brigade says it has dealt with about a hundred incidents there.
A spokesperson for the Gelderland-Midden Safety Region also said they have received reports of storm damage. “It’s about a tree here and a tree there,” says the spokesperson. No major incidents have occurred so far.
There was also a fallen tree on the A1 near Barneveld. The road is now open again. A truck blew over on the A32 near Leeuwarden and Heerenveen, the ANWB reports. The road is therefore closed between Akkrum and the Heerenveen junction.
The storm is accompanied by high water in large parts of the country. That is why several storm surge barriers have been closed and dikes are being extra monitored.
