Local authorities announced that the number of flood victims in southeastern France rose to five today, Monday, with the body of an octogenarian man found.
The Public Prosecution stated that the body of the 87-year-old man was found in Hero, and that a young woman who may have been with him was also being searched.
Earlier, a fourth body was found on the outskirts of the town of Dion, north of Nimes, where three people – a father and his two sons – were missing, according to the Gare department.
The 40-year-old mother was rescued before the car was swept away by a river flood on a bridge.
The two boys, aged 4 and 13, are still missing, in addition to a man in Ardesh province.
Storm Monica caused strong winds and heavy rain to fall on many European countries over the weekend.
In Spain, three people have been missing since the bad weather began, authorities announced Monday, as they continue the search to find them.
According to marine rescue services, two of the three missing people were minors and were swept away during a fishing trip on Friday afternoon on the shore of Gran Canaria.
As for the third, he was swept away on Saturday while swimming on a beach in Barcelona. The authorities had issued a warning that day due to bad weather conditions resulting from Storm Monica, which caused waves reaching a height of 2.5 meters.
