Storm depression “Ylenia” in Saxony: the plane cannot land in Dresden

Saxony – The storm “Ylenia” has Saxony firmly under control. There is a severe weather warning for the entire Free State. TAG24 reports on current effects here in the live ticker.

Already on Wednesday it became apparent that the weather could become extreme from today’s Thursday to the weekend. The storm warning predicted wind speeds of up to 120 km/h in Saxony, and severe thunderstorms were also warned locally. In addition, there is now persistent heavy rain in places.

Update, 6:17 p.m .: Small truck is torn from S177
At around 2.30 p.m. the storm ripped a small truck off the S177 between Sora and Röhrsdorf. According to the first information, the driver was injured and taken to the hospital.

Update, 6:15 p.m .: Parts of the old roof are torn from the building
In Bahnhofstrasse in Cossebaude, part of the roof fell off the former and empty station building. The parts flew around for meters on Thursday afternoon. Bahnhofstrasse had to be closed and bus line 68 diverted.

Update, 5:41 p.m .: Storm damage also in Leipzig
Storm “Ylenia” also caused damage in Leipzig.
In the Stötteritz district, the fire brigade arrived because of a damaged roof. In Mölkau, Gutberletstraße had to be temporarily closed due to falling parts of the roof.

Update, 2:45 p.m .: The plane cannot land in Dresden
Lufthansa flight 1518 from Frankfurt (departure 1.05 p.m., arrival 2.05 p.m.) could not land in Dresden.
Due to the strong wind, the pilot tried several times to land the machine safely at Dresden International Airport, but apparently it was not possible.
After two attempts, he turned and headed for the airport of departure. The Embraer E190LR aircraft is now scheduled to touch down in Frankfurt at around 3:03 p.m. The passengers’ journey then ends where it began.

Update, 2:15 p.m .: Power outages for thousands of customers in Vogtland and the Ore Mountains
A major power outage in southern Saxony has affected around 8,000 customers since the evening.
As the operator Mitnetz Strom informed TAG24, the first disruptions occurred on Wednesday evening around 10 p.m. The problems then lasted until the morning and affected a total of around 8,000 network customers in the Vogtland and Ore Mountains.
Except for “a few isolated cases”, most of those affected are now connected to the power grid again. A total of around 180 employees were deployed to eliminate the disruptions.
The company is issuing urgent warnings against approaching facilities and lines during the storm.

Update, 1.30 p.m .: A path of devastation after a storm accident on the A4
Accident on the A4 towards Dresden between Bautzen and Weißenberg.
A truck probably went off the road because of the strong storm, felling dozens of trees and destroying a fence. More on this in the TAG24 article.

Update, 11:27 a.m .: Cars hit by falling trees near Zschopau
Dramatic situations for drivers on the S277 between Börnichen and Hohndorf (near Zschopau). Here cars were hit by falling trees.
A driver had several guardian angels. A huge spruce fell on his car, just not on the driver’s side.
The fire brigade Börnichen was used. A dangerous rescue operation, as head of operations Rene Schmidt reports: “When we arrived, the trees behind us and in front of us crashed onto the road. We found the vehicles with the engine running but without the occupants. We searched the forest without results. The control center couldn’t help us either. Since it became too dangerous for our emergency services, we moved into the tool shed and are now on site to remove the trees.”
The drivers left their vehicles and fled the forest.

Update, 9.40 a.m .: Rail traffic in East Saxony stopped
There are restrictions on rail traffic on the Trilex routes.
As reported by the Länderbahn, the trains only run between Dresden and Bischofswerda. There is talk of “slight delays”.
According to the company, no rail traffic is possible between Bischofswerda and Görlitz or Zittau, as damage to the infrastructure still has to be repaired. Trees have fallen onto the tracks, which are now being sawn. This work “takes time. It is therefore currently not possible to give an exact forecast as to when traffic can be resumed.”
Since severe storm damage is also to be expected on the streets, no bus service was set up. “Customers are asked to use the regional buses that are still running if possible,” it says.

Update, 9.35 a.m .: Vogtlandbahn only runs on one line
The Vogtlandbahn is currently only in the RB2 between Plauen and Zwickau On the way.
All other lines were “orderly discontinued”, as the state railway reports. Deutsche Bahn is still conducting reconnaissance trips to assess whether the tracks can be opened to passenger traffic. “As soon as the tracks are free,” operations could begin.
In the meantime, a replacement service with buses and large-capacity taxis has been organised.

Update, 9.20 a.m .: Fire brigade operations in Dresden and the surrounding area
As the Dresden Fire Department reports in the morning, the regional control center is on increased alert.
The comrades have already moved out ten times. In one extreme case, a house roof in Dresden was destroyed. Otherwise, these are smaller operations: A construction fence and a tree fell on the street, for example. A tree fell on a power line in Münzmeisterstrasse.
There were 34 storm-related operations in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district and 24 in the Meissen district.

Update, 9.18 a.m .: Floods in Chemnitz
Not only the storm is a big problem. Persistent heavy rain led to flooding in many places.
In Chemnitz, some streets were under water. On the A72, the rain caused an underpass to be flooded.
A tree fell on the tracks of the CityBahn between Zwönitz and Thalheim. Like the CityBahn Chemnitz on theirs website reports, this will lead to cancellations on route C13.

Update, 8.06 a.m .: Fire brigades in Chemnitz and the Erzgebirge in continuous operation
Fallen trees are currently causing numerous Fire brigade operations in Chemnitz and environment.
On Hoffmannstrasse nothing worked for the morning rush hour. A large tree fell from a property onto the road, narrowly missing a car.
In Niederwürschnitz a tree crashed into an Audi. Lucky in misfortune: the tree hit the property, but just missed the houses.
On the Road of Nations, a tree snapped and blocked the road. The fire department quickly removed it. However, there were traffic delays.
