Storm in Bavaria: falling leaves, falling trees

Upper Franconia: trees uprooted, traffic impaired

The police in Upper Franconia have not yet received any reports of people injured by the storm. The number of operations is still high, said a police spokeswoman in an interview with the BR. Especially the traffic is affected by the storm through flying parts and trees or branches on the streets. The focus is currently in northern Upper Franconia, the spokeswoman continued. In addition to the around 70 calls in the morning between 7 and 8 a.m., many more had been added.

A tree fell on a house in Meuselsberg near Burgkunstadt. An 85-year-old resident was roused from her sleep but was uninjured. According to the police, there was property damage of around 30,000 euros. The fire brigade and technical aid organization are currently in the process of salvaging the uprooted tree from the roof of the house. The 19th century building is currently uninhabitable.

The fallen trees on the route between Lichtenfels and Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg (district of Kulmbach) have been removed. The railway announced this on its website. Train journeys between Lichtenfels and Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg are now possible again. However, trees on the route continue to hinder train traffic between Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg and Stammbach (Lkr. Hof).

In the Hof Zoo, a large branch fell on the outdoor enclosure of the two lynxes because of the storm. Both animals were unharmed, said zoo manager David Pruss the BR. However, the enclosure is currently not usable. With the help of the fire brigade, the two big cats were brought into their training cage. There was no danger that the lynx would escape from the zoo, said Pruss.
