New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a state of emergency overnight Wednesday-Thursday after what he called a “historic weather event” as heavy rains battered the city , causing flooding.
Almost all of the city’s subway lines were suspended on Wednesday after the remnants of Storm Ida brought heavy rain, CNN television reported. According to BFM TV, people are currently stuck in tunnels between metro stations.
On Wednesday evening, several flash flood warnings were issued. Submerged by water, several roads and the subway are blocked in the city.
Earlier in the night, the governor of the neighboring state of New Jersey had declared a state of emergency.
