New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a state of emergency overnight Wednesday through Thursday after what he called a “historic climatic event” as heavy rains hit the city , causing flooding.
Almost all of the city’s metro lines were suspended on Wednesday after the remnants of Storm Ida caused heavy rains, CNN television reported. According to BFM TV, people are currently stuck in the tunnels between metro stations.
On Wednesday evening, several flash flood alerts were issued. Submerged by water, several roads and the metro are blocked in the city.
Earlier in the night, the governor of the neighboring state of New Jersey declared a state of emergency.
