Storm Gerrit Moves North with 120 Kilometer Per Hour Wind Speed – Snow Expected in Scotland

With wind speeds of 120 kilometers per hour on the south coast, Gerrit is a storm to be reckoned with. The storm is moving north across the country, according to the British weather agency. The danger lies not only in the wind, but also in the amount of precipitation. Snow is expected in Scotland.

In the Netherlands we do not have to deal with storm Gerrit. “The KNMI will not warn about this, the wind is not strong enough for us,” says meteorologist Thijs Smink of Buienradar.

The British storm will therefore receive a Dutch name. This is because Ireland, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands use a joint list for storm names. Gerrit was also on there, as a tribute to the departing NOS weatherman. “It is of course funny to see the British playing around with that name,” says Smink.

On X the ex-weatherman responds to the mention: ‘Nice!’.

The wind is also blowing hard in the Netherlands, but that has nothing to do with Gerrit. Tomorrow it will be cloudy and there will be an area with some rain. In the afternoon it will be dry with sometimes a streak of sun from the south. It will remain changeable in the coming days.
