Tropical Storm Francine continues its upward trajectory towards the north of the continent, gaining increasing strength, and is expected to become a hurricane in the next few hours.

According to the National Weather Service forecast, Francine will increase in intensity over the next few hours, becoming a Category 1 hurricane around noon on September 10.

The storm is also expected to make landfall on Wednesday or Thursday in Louisiana, United States. Given the trajectory marked in recent days, it is unlikely to make landfall in Mexico.

However, the power of its winds and the amount of water it displaces can cause torrential rains in central and northern Tamaulipas, intense rains in southern Tamaulipas and Veracruz, heavy rains in Nuevo León, very heavy rains in San Luis Potosí and isolated rains in Coahuila.

Due to Francine’s strong winds of between 100 and 120 kilometers per hour, some areas of Tamaulipas will be on yellow and orange alert for the next few hours and until the storm moves away. The yellow alert, which involves the preparation of temporary shelters, is active in the center of the state.

To avoid risks, the Tamaulipas Education Secretariat indicated that there will be no classes in the following municipalities: San Fernando, Matamoros and Valle Hermoso.

As reported by REPORTUR.mxdifferent points in the Mexican Caribbean such as Cancun are already preventing flooding in the face of the storm and hurricane season that begins in September (Cancun is already preventing flooding with brigades in the event of a future storm).
