Storm damage: parts of the facade of the Gasunie building fall down, ring road partly closed (update)

The situation was stable around 9 p.m. Saturday evening. The fire brigade has now transferred the file to Gasunie and the municipality; they are now responsible for the safety situation and are going to see what repair work is necessary on the facade. The weather forecast for Monday is similar to that of Saturday, even then hard wins are forecast.

Twenty reports in total

The fire brigade also turned up in other places in the province on Saturday for various reports of storm damage. A total of about twenty reports were received, mainly of fallen trees and loosened branches. There were also reports of panels and roof parts coming loose from homes and buildings.

Tree on soccer cage

On the corner of Floresstraat and Javalaan in Stad, a fallen tree ended up on a football cage. So far, no injuries have been reported. The fencing of the football cage has significant damage.

Tree on its way in Kolham

In Kolham a tree fell on the road N387 towards Slochteren. Firefighters sawed and removed the tree. The road was temporarily closed.

The N33 between Siddeburen and Noordbroek will also be closed for some time on Saturday afternoon due to several large branches on the road.

Loose roof edges Sappemeer and Winschoten

At the Parkstraat in Sappemeer, a piece of the eaves of an apartment complex came loose at the beginning of the evening. The loose piece of eaves damaged two windows. The fire brigade tried to remove the piece of steel from an aerial platform. When that failed, the firefighters were able to remove the roof edge in another way.

The eaves of the building ‘t Zuiderslot on PC Hooftlaan in Winschoten also came loose as a result of the storm. The fire service has removed the roof section.

In Finsterwolde, according to a fire service spokesperson, a tree ended up on a power distribution box.

Trailer tilted at Hoogezand

On the N385 near Hoogezand, a trailer overturned at the end of the afternoon, probably also due to the strong wind. The trailer ended up on the side of the road.

Piece of roof of demolition Delfzijl blown away

At Beton Bouw Delfzijl on the Koperweg in Farmsum, a piece of the roof of a demolition building came loose due to the strong wind on Saturday evening. Part of the roof blew off and ended up on the adjacent road.

The fire brigade was called in because more roof plates were loose. The fire service secured the rest of the roof with a cherry picker and brought it down.

Tree in Midwolda is hanging over the road

The storm on the Niesoordlaan in Midwolda caused a tree to hang crookedly over the road. The fire brigade topped the tree and then sawed it into pieces and placed it along the side of the road. The Niesoordlaan was temporarily closed.

The municipality has announced that the wood can be collected free of charge until Sunday morning.

Tree on the road in Winschoten

A tree also fell on the Elandhof in Winschoten on Saturday and fell on the road. Traffic did not experience much hindrance; the fire brigade was quickly on site to remove the tree.
