Storm Bella causes more nuisance in neighboring countries

Wind gusts of up to 170 kilometers per hour were measured on the Isle of Wight. In other places the wind speed rose to 160 kilometers per hour. On the coast this led to high waves and flooding.

In several places the emergency services had to move to rescue people. In the northwest, snow and sleet fell in the early morning.

Trains and boats delayed

In Wales, 20,000 households had power cuts. This also happened in other places in the country. Trains everywhere were delayed. Reports of flooded rails and trees and debris came on the track.

The ports of Dover and Calais warned of possible delays in the crossing of the Channel due to high winds and poor visibility.

In several cities, the water level in the rivers is rising and residents have been warned to leave their homes. In the river Ouse in York, for example, a water level of four meters higher than normal is expected tomorrow morning.

For Northern Ireland, the north of Wales, the northwest of England and the south of Scotland, there are warnings about snow and ice build-up, as temperatures can drop below freezing after the storm.
