Storm Arwen rages over UK: two deaths and a lot of inconvenience

The two died, according to British media, because trees fell. A tree fell on a car in Antrim, Northern Ireland. A school principal was killed.

A man from Lancaster was hit by a tree in Ambleside, England. He died on the spot, according to police.

Arwen has been accompanied by heavy wind gusts, rain and snowfall since yesterday afternoon. The authorities had warned Britons by issuing a rare code red. That means that life-threatening severe weather is approaching.

That warning expired this morning, but even after that the advice remained to make only necessary trips.

Drivers who nevertheless entered the road were confronted with nuisance. Police reported that 120 lorries got stuck in snow on the M62 motorway through England.
