Washington, Jun 6 (Prensa Latina) Tropical storm Alex is moving away from the Bermuda Islands and could weaken in the next few hours to soon become an extratropical low, the National Hurricane Center reported today.
The most recent report from the entity explains that the center of the first storm of the current cyclonic season in the Atlantic Ocean was located near latitude 34.0 North, longitude 63.8 West, in the vicinity of the Bermuda Islands.
Alex is moving toward the east-northeast near 46 mph and is forecast to continue the general motion through Tuesday.
The maximum sustained winds are close to 100 kilometers per hour with higher gusts, the report explains.
The event arose from the remnants of Hurricane Agatha, which struck last week as the most powerful hurricane to make landfall in a month of May on the Pacific coast of Mexico. As the system approached Cuba, it caused intense rainfall in western areas.
The Atlantic and Caribbean hurricane season officially started on June 1 and runs until November 30. Alex will be followed by Bonnie in the list predetermined by the World Meteorological Organization.
