The Department of Culture of the Paracuellos de Jarama City Council and the Network of Theaters of the Community of Madrid offer, on Saturday, October 28, ‘Stories and songs of washerwomen’.
It is a show that combines oral narration, theater and live music with a traditional basis around the task of washing clothes by hand, which until just a few decades ago was carried out by women in fountains, rivers and laundries. An emotional journey to discover the traces that washerwomen have left in popular stories and songs. What was told and what was sung at these female gatherings that for some were the only opportunity to leave the house without male company.
The performance will take place at the Cultural Center (39 Ronda de las Cuestas Street), at 6:00 p.m. Tickets cost three euros and can be purchased on the day of the event, from half an hour before.
