The press conference in Marmorhallen starts at 4 pm, the government writes in a press release.

Health director Bjørn Guldvog and NIPH director Camilla Stoltenberg must also be present.

On Thursday morning, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre told NRK that it should be high threshold for introducing new national measures in the homes of the people.

– But when we say, for example, that you should not shake hands and perhaps should not hug, it gets a little important for private relationships, with close contact. But we are not at the level that we are going into the homes of people, says Støre to NRK.

Conservative leader Erna Solberg has criticized the government’s corona strategy for being inadequate. In Politisk kvarter on Thursday, she explained that she believes that national measures early in the flowering of infections better fight infection.

At the same time, several have called for regional measures. The state administrator in Western Norway is now preparing a regional corona regulation, following a proven omicron infection in Øygarden municipality.

At 12.30, the Viken municipalities and Oslo Minister of Health Ingrid Kjerkol (Labor Party) will also meet to discuss regional measures, according to VG.

Rising infection

The infection trend in Norway is still rising, with an average of 2889 registered infected in the last seven days. Since mid-November, the number of admitted corona patients has been over 200, which is on a par with April.

At the same time, at least four confirmed cases of the new virus variant omikron have been detected in this country. It is also believed that 50-60 people at a Christmas table in Oslo can also be infected with omicron. The variant is believed to be more contagious and more resistant to vaccines, but it is still unknown whether it gives a higher risk of hospitalization.

Two days ago, Støre presented the government’s new corona strategy. The plan is to have control of the infection this winter, without believing that the virus will be completely gone. By Easter, the government wants everyone over 18 to have received a refreshment dose.

The strategy was presented before it became known that the omikron variant was registered in Norway.
