Stopping work on unsafe construction sites carried out by Labor Inspectorate to ensure safety | Economy

Last week, the Dutch Labor Inspectorate found a total of 250 violations at 140 different construction sites. In more than half of the cases, the situation was so dangerous that the work was immediately halted.

Many unsafe work situations were observed in North Brabant and Limburg in particular. In and around cities such as Utrecht and Rotterdam, the inspectorate immediately halted work in several places after inspections.

In many cases this happened with installers of solar panels and roofers. “There was a lack of scaffolding, fencing or handrails, for example.” Work may not resume on the construction sites until they can demonstrate that the working situation is safe again.

In almost half of the cases, companies can face a fine for violating the Working Conditions Act. A number of companies got off with a warning. There was then no direct danger or it was a minor violation.
