Stopping trials of Johnson & Johnson’s anti-corona vaccine after one of the participants contracted a strange disease

Johnson & Johnson said it had temporarily stopped clinical trials of a candidate vaccine for Covid-19 disease after one of the participants contracted an unexplained disease, delaying one of the most important efforts made to contain the global pandemic.

The company said in a statement on Monday that an independent board to monitor data and safety, as well as the company’s clinical and safety doctors, are studying and evaluating the disease that the participant contracted.

The company added that stopping is considered normal in the large experiments conducted with the participation of tens of thousands of people. She said that “stopping for the purpose of the study” from administering doses of the proposed vaccine is different from “stopping for regulatory purposes” by orders of the health authorities.

But the move by Johnson & Johnson follows a similar step by AstraZenka.
