The collective Bassines Non Merci, the Uprisings of the Earth and the Peasant Confederation intend to make the demonstration planned for this weekend in Deux-Sèvres a “historic event”.
They expect tens of thousands of demonstrators and nearly eighty tractors. On March 24, 25 and 26, the collective Bassines Non Merci, the Uprisings of the Earth and the Peasant Confederation intend to “cross a historic milestone” by calling for a march against the water reservoir projects in Deux-Sèvres. During a press conference this Monday, March 20, 2023, the organizers recall their intentions and confirm their “determination to act against the government which remains deaf”.
Civil disobedience against the government
Nicolas Girod of the Confédération paysanne, Julien Le Guet of Bassines Non Merci and Benoît Feuillu of Uprisings of the Earth, affirm it: “We are ready to act and we are ready to win once and for all! Since the government does not hear us, we respond with civil disobedience. »
This is the fifth demonstration that they have organized together against water reserve projects. Their goal, to stop the work of “mega basins” in Deux-Sèvres, to ask for the collectivization of those existing and to obtain a moratorium from the government.
“Next weekend, it will be the people of water in all its diversity who will stand up. It will be a historic moment, an international gathering, chants Julien Le Guet. We expect to break all records in terms of numbers. In total, two hundred unions, associations, NGOs and political parties responded to the call, according to the organizers.
“Surprise” actions planned over three days
The mobilization, prohibited by the prefecture, is planned for three days. It will take place either in Sainte-Soline, or in Mauzé, or on both sites. “The ball is in the court of the government and Emmanuel Macron, continues Julien Le Guet. In the hours to come, Elisabeth Borne has the opportunity to tell us that she got our message. There are two possible outcomes to this manifestation: ideal or dramatic. Either we get the moratorium or not. »
And Nicolas Girod to add: “Through the sobriety plan which is under discussion, the government has the capacity to provide answers. And he will have to prove it because we are mobilized. It will be the biggest mobilization we have ever known. »
Asked about his judicial control which prohibits him from going to the municipalities of Sainte-Soline and Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon, Julien Le Guet replies that his case is only anecdotal. “The mobilization does not need me to exist and there will be events organized outside these two cities. I will therefore be present. As for the planned actions, “we are still surprised! »
