Tom Hestnes was eating at Krogh’s café by Uranienborg school when the savage skier thundered over an intersection and slammed into the curb on the other side.
Hestnes jumped up and grabbed his legs.
– It was obvious to me that he could inflict some damage, so it was probably only the instincts that struck, says Hestnes, who lives in the area, to Dagbladet.
– Disturbing
He has no doubt that the episode could have ended really badly.
– It is disturbing and disgusting to think about what could have happened. Just three minutes before, there was a youth gang there. He could have cut them down, says Hestnes.
When the 43-year-old, who usually works as a portfolio manager in the financial industry, got up on the side of the car, he managed, with only his fists, to break through the car window on the driver’s side.
– Yes, it was very special. Either you break your hand or it goes through. Again, I only acted on instinct, says Hestnes.
He then grabbed the steering wheel and turned the car to the side and into a car to stop it.
– It seemed like the only rational thing to do.
Basketak
Furthermore, Hestnes tells how he got a grip on the man, who appeared to be obviously intoxicated.
Pretty soon three other men arrived, and they managed, after a fight, to get the driver out of the car.
– I have received a good cut over the eye that has swollen up, so there will be another trip to the emergency room tomorrow, Hestnes says.
Dagbladet has access to video images of how the driver was overpowered and pulled out of the car.
Operations manager Gjermund Stokkli in the Oslo police tells Dagbladet that the man in his 50s has been arrested. He must have been heavily intoxicated.
