StopNCII.org: Putting an End to Non-Consensual Intimate Image Abuse

Stop the Abuse of Non-Consensual Intimate Images or StopNCII.org For its acronym in English, it is a free digital tool that eliminates intimate videos and photos that were spread on social networks without the consent of the person involved.

To delete the content, the affected person must create their case on the StopNCII.org website. The tool will track the digital footprint of the photos or videos, identify copies of the content and share them with the participating companies so that they can delete them. Participating companies are Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, Reddit, Bumble and OnlyFans.

Lee: “When I reported the dissemination of my intimate photos, the Police did nothing”

«The tool works by creating hashes (fingerprints) of the images or videos you select directly on your device, without the need to upload them. The fingerprint is the only file that is shared with StopNCII.org and participating companies,” clarifies StopNCII.org.

StopNCII.org has a success rate of more than 90 percent and has removed more than 200 thousand images intimate images shared without consent on the Internet, according to Revenge Porn Helpline, the organization that operates the tool.

To create a case, three requirements must be met: be the person in the image or video and have access to the content; that the image or video is of an intimate nature, that is, nude or sexual; and be over 18 years old.

If a person wants to create a case, but is not the direct victim or if the victim is a minor, the organization must be contacted directly to review the case individually.

Additionally, StopNCII.org has a global network of nonprofit organizations that offer help to victims of intimate content dissemination. In the case of Latin America it is the organization Active Vita offering a helpline through its communication channels.

It also offers contacts for other digital platforms for help in removing images or videos spread through the “resources and support” section. Among the platforms where you can report are Discord, Messenger, Pinterest, Snapchat, Twitter, WhatsApp, among others.

Common violence against women

The dissemination of intimate content without consent is one of the most common digital violence that women experience, according to the United Nations. Despite being one of the most common forms of violence, it is one of the least regulated by laws and one of the least criminally sanctioned by States; since women often face the stigmas of their sexuality and the judgment of society and the institutions in charge of guaranteeing justice.

In Nicaragua, the dissemination of this content is punishable by four to eight years in prison under the Special Cybercrime Law, and with four years in prison under the Comprehensive Law Against Violence Against Women.

In June of this year, Kevin Reyes became the first Nicaraguan person sentenced to five years in prison for sharing sexual images and videos of his partner without her consent.
