Chelsea’s Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson did not appreciate John Obi Mikel’s criticism. On Instagram, the Blues striker sent an unfiltered message to the former Nigeria midfielder.
It is often said that the best answer is on the pitch. Nicolas Jackson brought it this Sunday after his goal against Wolverhampton, but also did it on Instagram. The Senegalese striker who arrived at the Blues in the summer of 2023 has never had the expected performance. On the second day of the Premier League, he unlocked his counter this season after a goal scored in just under two minutes of play.
“Shut your mouth, stop talking shit, we are killing ourselves for Africa,” Nicolas Jackson addressed to John Obi Mikel in an Instagram story. The Senegalese attacked the former Chelsea legend after the latter criticized Jackson’s offensive efficiency.
Chelsea’s fastest goal since 2017
“He runs around and does what he has to do, but we need a goalscorer,” Mikel lamented on Bein Sports. “We need a striker who knows how to put a ball in the back of the net and that’s what we don’t have,” added the Nigerian after Chelsea’s loss to Manchester City on the first day of the Championship (0-2).
Nicolas Jackson clearly did not ignore these criticisms and therefore opened his account this season during the Blues’ big win on the pitch at Wolverhampton (6-2). He scored Chelsea’s fastest goal in the league since 2017.
Last season in 35 Premier League games played he found the back of the net 14 times and provided five assists. Not enough for John Obi Mikel who believes that Chelsea deserve better: “I think at Chelsea we need a top striker who can score us a goal. A bit like Haaland, 91 goals with City, it’s absolutely incredible.” It seems a bit utopian despite the Blues’ bloated squad who do not seem determined to recruit another striker.
