TOKYO – Viktor Axelsen stop the shock made by the Guatemalan men’s singles badminton, Kevin Cordon, from Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The Danish badminton player defeated Kevin Cordon in the semifinals, while sealing a place to the final Tokyo 2020 Olympics after winning with a score of 21-18 and 21-11 at Musashino Forest Sports Plaza, Sunday (1/8/2021) morning WIB.

Facing the fourth seed, Kevin Cordon was able to provide resistance. A tight match was inevitable from the start of the first game, with the score as strong as 3-3.

Even so, Axelsen can prove his quality by opening a 6-3 advantage. Cordon tried to catch up, but Axelsen eventually led 11-8 at the interval.

Left behind, Cordon was not immediately discouraged. He kept forcing Axelsen to make mistakes and eventually got back to leveling at 14-14.

Do not stop there, Cordon then turned to lead 16-14. However, Axelsen, who did not want to be shy, accelerated the tempo of his game and made the score as strong as 18-18.

Kevin Cordon has to work hard to match the game. But, in the end Axelsen came back 20-18. Repeated smashes made Axelsen seize the opening phase.

The tight competition then happened again in the second game. It was so tight, the early phase also went through a long rally and the position was even with the numbers 3-3.

After that, Cordon was able to find an opening and unleash a powerful smash. This situation put him ahead 5-3. However, Axelsen was able to quickly catch up and make the position draw 5-5.

Axelsen then tried to take advantage of the momentum. He continued to collect points and led 11-6 when it reached the interval thanks to his powerful shots.

Even though he was far behind, Cordon didn’t want to give up so easily. He was then able to cut the gap to 10-13. Unfortunately, he failed to maintain consistency.

With a number of mistakes made, Cordon was left with a score of 11-18. Axelsen’s smash then failed to be parried and the match ended within 40 minutes. As a result, Axelsen closed the second set with a 21-11 victory.
