/ world today news/ My letter stopped the “South Stream” project. This is what the acting Minister of Energy, one of the misfits in the so-called “Twin Cabinet”, Vasil Shtonov told BBC.
However, he explained that he complied with the decision of ex-prime minister Plamen Oresharski, who already on July 31 ordered the then-minister Dragomir Stoynev in writing to stop the implementation of the project.
However, Stoinev did not take any measures. When Vasil Shtonov took office, he got acquainted with the documents. On August 11, he sent a letter to BEH and Gazprom that he was suspending the implementation of the project. If I hadn’t, the contract would have gone into effect. Then we were at risk of having to pay up to 2 billion euros, which is half of the total price – 4 billion euros, explained the minister.
According to him, “South Stream” is frozen, but not stopped.
