Stones Thrown at Moving Train in Provadia Result in Injury to Driver and Delays

Stones thrown at a moving train near Provadia broke the windshield of the locomotive cabin and injured the driver, BDZ reports. He suffered injuries to his shoulder and his ear was also affected.

A signal was immediately sent to 112 and the competent services were activated, carrying out the necessary investigative actions to identify the perpetrators.

Because of the incident, the train from Varna to Vratsa is running over three hours late. Passengers were given water at Shumen station. Other disruptions to the train schedule are expected, BDZ states.

An abandoned car on the tracks prevented the Kardam-Sofia train

Throwing stones at trains can have tragic consequences. At an average train speed of 65 km/h, even a small pebble can break through the glass and injure a person. The damage that BDZ sustains every year from stone-broken windows of wagons, coaches and locomotives is in the amount of hundreds of thousands of BGN. Human life and health are immeasurably more important than money, the company emphasizes.
