NATO member Turkey has stated that it does not welcome the accession of Finland and Sweden to the alliance, accusing the Scandinavian countries of supporting Kurdish militants.
However, at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Berlin today, Stoltenberg said that Turkey had made it clear that it did not want to block these countries from joining NATO.
“I am confident that we will be able to allay the concerns expressed by Turkey in a way that will not (..) delay the accession process,” Stoltenberg said.
Turkey has previously stated that it will only agree to Finland’s and Sweden’s membership of NATO if a number of conditions are met.
