Stolen Parrot Reunited with Owner After Three Years: A Heartwarming Tale

Jeanne Le Borgne

Stolen for three years, the parrot had forgotten neither its name nor that of its owner.

It’s a lovely story that gives hope to all owners of lost pets. On Wednesday September 27, municipal police officers from the city of Marseille were patrolling in the 2nd arrondissement of the city, when they discovered a cage housing a bird.

According to “ Provence “, one of the municipal police officers then immediately recognized that it was a Gabonese gray, a protected species of parrot whose trade outside of breeding is illegal, but unfortunately widespread. It is also indicated that the bird is “for sale”.

In its cage, the bird sings “Jako, Jako”.

The animal stolen three years earlier

This little cry then alerts the municipal police officers. Three years earlier, one of their colleagues was beside himself with grief at having his Gabonese gray stolen. He then proclaimed to anyone who would listen: “If one day you see him, he will probably say his name, Jako”.

And indeed: the animal, which had obviously been debagged, was identified as the one stolen three years ago from a municipal police officer in Marseille. Entrusted to an association after his seizure, Jako was therefore returned to his owner, whose name he shouted when they were reunited.

To welcome a Gabonese gray into your home, it is mandatory to obtain a keeping authorization and identify your animal. For this, the parrot must necessarily have been purchased from an approved breeder.
