Stolen Commercial Truck Chase in Staten Island Leaves 15 Vehicles Damaged and 4 Officers Injured: Suspect in Custody

The driver of a stolen commercial truck led police on a chase through Staten Island Thursday night, crashing into at least 15 vehicles, including New York Police Department patrol cars, and injuring four officers, before they could take him into custody. , police officials told NBC New York.

The chase began around 7:30 p.m. in Bishop and Cranford and ended six miles away in Beach and Van Duzer, a source said. The truck ran over several vehicles and others were left piled on top of each other.

“It was just a loud noise,” said witness Shaw-Nae Dixon.

The NYPD told NBC New York that New Jersey police notified them to be on the lookout for a man driving the stolen truck. Police added that the suspect was wanted for a crime spree.

“We tried to stop him,” said NYPD Deputy Chief Joseph Golotta. “He backed up and crashed into one of our police cars. As he tried to drive away, he dragged one of our police cars 30 to 40 feet before he broke free.”

At least four officers and five civilians suffered minor injuries, police said.

The NYPD added that it had the suspect in custody and was still investigating the incident.
