Stoke City Wins Battle for Signature of Million Manhoef, Leaving Vitesse

Vitesse will leave Vitesse shortly after the failure of a possible switch to PSV. ESPN reports on Wednesday evening that English Stoke City has won the battle for the 22-year-old winger. The Italian Palermo would thus be missing out.

Yesterday (Tuesday) it became clear that Manhoef – against the wishes of trainer Edward Sturing and technical director Benjamin Schmedes – was in favor of leaving Vitesse. The Arnhem team were ‘feverishly’ trying to sell the winger for an amount of around three million euros to a – probably – Italian club, it was written The Gelderlander.

A day later, Manhoef was suddenly linked with PSV, which is urgently looking for a winger because Noa Lang has been injured again and Yorbe Vertessen is due for a transfer to Union Berlin. A short time later, however, it became clear that PSV had canceled Manhoef and was once again focusing on Couhaib Driouech.

After that, both Stoke City, number nineteen in the Championship, and Palermo, number five in Serie B, would remain as candidates to pry Manhoef away. So it seems to be the English; Manhoef will meet former Feyenoord player Wouter Burger as teammates at Stoke. In the past, former international players such as Ed de Goey, Peter Hoekstra, Erik Pieters, Ibrahim Affelay and Bruno Martins Indi were also under contract in Stoke-on-Trent.
