No longer in his trusted Mercedes silver arrow in which he took his world title last season. That took some getting used to for Stoffel Vandoorne.
During the qualifications in Mexico City, the Belgian did not get further than 14th place. his mission was clear: a race to catch up in the streets of the Mexican capital.
Vandoorne succeeded quite well. In the last of 41 laps he advanced to a points finish. His teammate and two-time FE world champion Jean-Eric Vergne crossed the line in 12th place.
The victory went to the Briton Jake Dennis (Andretti). Dennis, 2nd on the starting grid, took the lead on lap 12. He would not relinquish the Briton and won his 4th ePrix of his career.
Germany’s Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche), who triumphed in Mexico last year, came in second. Brazilian Lucas Di Grassi (Mahindra) – who started on pole position – completed the podium.
