NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – The US stock exchanges started May in a friendly manner on Monday. This brings the latest record levels back into focus. Investors continue to weigh between the prospects for a recovering economy and the risks of rising inflation. Meanwhile, subdued current economic data did not fuel fears of an imminent tightening of American monetary policy.

In the first hour of trading, the Dow Jones Industrial rose 0.76 percent to 34,133.06 points. The US benchmark index is only 0.4 percent or around 120 points short of its record of 34,256 points. The previous week the US benchmark index closed with a loss of half a percent, but posted an increase of around 2.7 percent in April. The market-wide S&P 500 advanced by 0.57 percent to 4204.89 points on Monday and the technology-heavy Nasdaq 100 gained 0.58 percent to 13,941.30 points. / Gl / he
