NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – Renewed concerns about a Russian invasion of Ukraine overshadowed the start of trading on the US stock exchanges on Thursday. The reason is that the US government classifies the partial withdrawal of Russian troops from the border area with Ukraine announced by Moscow as false information and warns against being naive in dealing with Russia. Instead, it is assuming a further expansion of the military presence. Russia has confirmed its intention to withdraw its troops from Belarus after the end of the military manoeuvre.
The Dow Jones Industrial (Dow Jones 30 Industrial) was down 0.75 percent in early trade to 34,678 points. The market-wide S&P 500 lost 0.73 percent to 4442 points. The tech-heavy NASDAQ 100 was down 0.80 percent to 14,487 points./bek/he
