HALMSTAD. Malmö FF are “sure” where the cup final will be played, despite the draw. In Stockholm.

– They have rigged for themselves, says Pontus Jansson.

Statistics show that the Stockholm team until 2022 had home field advantage – 16 times in a row.

Malmö FF is ready for the final in the Swedish Cup after a 4-0 defeat by Halmstad away from home at Örjans vall on Saturday.

Opponents will be AIK or Djurgården, who meet in the second semi-final on Sunday.

Where the final will be played will be drawn according to the Swedish Football Association’s website on March 24. One of the final teams will be the home team.

Several Malmö players are convinced that one of the semi-final teams AIK or Djurgården will be home in the final against MFF.

– It wouldn’t surprise me if there is a final in Stockholm. It often happens, says Isaac Kiese Thelin.

“Know it will go away”

– But there are no problems. It would have been fantastic to get home, but you almost expect it to be away, to be honest.

Due?

– I don’t know if there are two balls with Stockholm in them, says Kiese Thelin with a smile.

The MFF team captain Pontus Jansson also believes that it is predetermined that one of the Stockholm teams AIK or Djurgården will get the home field advantage in the final which will be played on May 9.

– We don’t need to comment on that. We know it will go away. We are ready for a Stockholm match, says Jansson and says about the lottery balls:

– They have rigged for themselves.

“It will be what it will be”

Is it the connection between SvFF and AIK you are thinking of?

– No idea, I don’t know who pulls the balls. The feeling is that it will be a Stockholm match.

What do you want to avoid, the lawn on Friends or the artificial grass on Tele2?

– Yes, I don’t care. It will be what it will be, says Jansson.

– It’s been a long time since I won against the Stockholm team. I have met them twice in ten years, before that I won in game and minute.

– We played away from home today but it felt like home and we won 4-0. We can win away from home too. It’s going to be an away game, we all know that, says Pontus Jansson.

Home field in 16 straight draws

Is the MFF’s mistrust of the lottery plucked out of thin air?

Well, far from it.

According to the site Gas setswhich covers Malmö FF, the three Stockholm teams – AIK, Djurgården and Hammarby – were part of home or away draws in the semi-finals or finals of the cup 16 times from 2004 to 2022.

On all 16 occasions, the Stockholm teams had the home field advantage.

Mathematically, the chance of that happening was 1 in 65,536, or 0.0015 percent.
