NEW YORK (AP) — Stock prices closed lower on the New York Stock Exchange on Friday, where the S&P 500 is 10% below the peak it reached in July. This puts the index in what is called a “correction.”
The declines came amid the latest batch of earnings reports from big technology and energy companies, and some mixed readings on the economy.
The S&P 500 fell 0.5%, its 10th decline in the last 12 days. The Dow fell 366 points and the Nasdaq rose 0.4%.
Treasury yields were steady following a mixed report on inflation, consumer spending and income. Rising bond yields have contributed to stocks’ decline since mid-year.
