Stock Market Updates: European and US Markets Mixed on Thursday

US stocks rose after the release of the latest statistics showing that the US economy grew faster than previously estimated in the first quarter.

Revised data released a month ago showed that US gross domestic product increased by 1.3% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period a year earlier, but the latest data shows that the increase was 2%.

Adding to the positive sentiment among investors was the data that the number of new claims for unemployment benefits in the US registered a decline last week.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.8% to 34,122.42 on Thursday, the Standard & Poor’s 500 rose 0.5% to 4,396.44, while the Nasdaq Composite was up did not change and at the end of the trading day was 13,591.33 points.

London’s FTSE 100 fell 0.4% to 7,471.69 on Thursday, Frankfurt’s DAX was almost unchanged at 15,946.72 at the end of the trading day, and Paris’ CAC 40 rose 0.4% to 7,312 .73 points.

WTI crude oil rose 0.4% to $69.86 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday. The price of “Brent” crude oil rose by 0.4% to 74.34 dollars per barrel on the London Stock Exchange.

The price of natural gas in the Dutch “Title Transfer Facility” (TTF) exchange increased by 3.1% to 35.18 euros per megawatt hour on Thursday.

The euro was down from $1.0913 to $1.0872 per euro on Thursday, the British pound was down from $1.2636 to $1.2613 per pound, and the dollar was up against the Japanese yen from 144.48 to 144.82 yen per dollar. The euro fell against the British pound from 86.37 to 86.17 pence per euro.
