Stock Market Update: US Indexes Close in Negative Territory; Oracle Suffers, Oil Sector Stocks Rise

The main US stock indexes ended the session in negative territory.

The Dow Jones lost 0.05% to 34,646 points, while the S&P500 closed down 0.57% to 4,462 points. Negative performance also for the Nasdaq (-1.04% to 13,774 points).

Definitely bad day for Oracle (-13.5% to 109.61 dollars), after the release of the financial results for the 1st quarter of 2023/2024; earnings per share were better than analysts’ consensus, while revenue was slightly lower than expected.

On the contrary, oil sector stocks rose, after the price of crude oil in New York (contract expiring in October 2023) approached 89 dollars a barrel. Chevron and Exxon Mobil gained 1.86% and 2.92%, respectively.
