Stock market starts brightly on May, KPN falls from a pink cloud | Financial

At the beginning of the afternoon, the AEX is in the plus 0.6%, at 711.8 points. The Midcap index has cleared the morning losses and stands at 1037.6 points, 0.1% higher than Friday at the closing bell. In Paris, the CAC-40 is on a 0.5% gain, the German DAX index is gaining 0.6%. Stock traders have a day off in London.

Activity

The good figures in Amsterdam are partly due to the new purchasing managers figures in BV Netherlands. The Nevi purchasing managers index, which measures activity, stood at 67.2 in April compared to 64.7 in March. If this indicator exceeds 50, there is growth, below that, shrinkage.

There has been record growth for two months in a row now. “The German retail figures are also good,” says Joop van de Groep of asset manager Fintessa. “The economy seems to be rebounding, and the stock market is sailing along with that sentiment.” ING also announced on Friday that the corona recession is over.

Fair party

KPN does not participate in the fair party. The telecom company confirmed on Sunday that it had rejected two “unsolicited” takeover proposals. This concerns a proposal from the Swedish EQT and the American Stonepeak, as well as a bid from the American KKR. According to business newspaper Financial Times, the offer from EQT and Stonepeak amounted to about € 18 billion.

However, KPN states that the investors had not yet named an amount. The company does not comment on the amount of KKR’s offer either. According to KPN, the proposals have been carefully considered, but according to the company do not contribute much to the strategic course that has been set.

Disagree

Investors seem to disagree with that decision. KPN opened a good 4% lower, only to regain something afterwards. The loss nevertheless remains substantial, at -3.7%. “The chance of a takeover is quite small,” explains Van de Groep. “The sentiment is that countries should protect their own infrastructure.” Until now, investors have been opportunistic, according to the asset manager. “You can’t beat that out. But now it appears that it is really not going to happen. ”

The biggest winner in the AEX is yet ASMI, met +1,7%. ASML (+ 1.1%) in Iron (+ 0.5%) hitchhiking. Investors see, among other things, good news in the report that the CEO of Intel sees no end to the shortages for the time being, according to Van de Groep.

Philips

Shareholders of Philips (+ 1.6%) are satisfied with the figures of industry peer Siemens Healthineers, which was able to raise expectations for 2021 after a strong quarter. Also ArcelorMittal does fine with + 1.6%, as does Signify (+1,5%).

The heavyweights of the AEX are variable. Unilever (+ 1%) is on a profit, Shell loses 0.4%.

The Midkap index is doing well with Eurocommercial Properties (+1,8%), Air France KLM (+ 1.6%) in PostNL (+1,5%). Fagron (-1.2%) is the bottom of the league.
