Stock market: decline at opening in New York and Toronto

MARKET REVIEW. The New York Stock Exchange opened lower Tuesday, pending the intervention of the boss of the Fed in committee in Congress and after the announcement of containment in Germany.

The Toronto Stock Exchange was down slightly at the start of the session, mainly due to a drop in the energy sector.

The clues

In Toronto, the index S&P/TSX yielded 8 points, or 0.05%, to 18,806 points.

In New York, the S&P 500 decreased by 2 points, or 0.06%, to 3,938 points.

The Dow Jones gleaned 5 points, or 0.02%, to 32,736 points.

The Nasdaq lost 53 points, or 0.4%, to 13,324 points.
