Vehicle owners whose STNK has been dead for 5 years and haven’t renewed for two years can no longer take it for granted. The reason is that starting this year, the government will cancel the vehicle registration data, which in total have been taxed for 7 years.
If it has been removed, the vehicle owner will no longer be able to register the vehicle. In this way, the vehicle becomes puffy and just a display at home!
The STNK itself is one of the documents that must be carried with you while driving. The obligation to wear a STNK is sanctioned by article 106 paragraph 5 of Law n. 22 of 2009. It establishes that, when carrying out an inspection of a motor vehicle on the road, anyone who drives a motor vehicle must present a STNK or temporary STNK, driving licence, proof of passing periodic tests and/or valid proof.
For those who violate it, it is clear that there is a threat of punishment under Article 288. The driver will be threatened with a fine of IDR 500,000.
“Anyone who drives a motor vehicle on a road that does not carry a motor vehicle registration certificate or motor vehicle test certificate issued by the Indonesian National Police referred to in Article 106 paragraph (5) letter a , is subject to imprisonment for up to 2 months or a maximum fine of IDR 500,000,” the article read.
In addition to fines, undocumented vehicles also risk being impounded. In the Government regulation number 80 of 2012 concerning the procedures for the inspection of motor vehicles on the road and the enforcement of traffic and road transport violations, article 32, paragraph 6, it is explained that the confiscation of motor vehicles is performed if the vehicle is not equipped with a valid STNK at the time of the roadside inspection. Then in article 36 paragraph 2 it is explained, the Vehicles confiscated because they do not have a valid STNK are returned to the owner upon presentation of a valid STNK.
“So it’s locked and can’t be activated anymore, it’s just a souvenir after. There is a car but it’s only exhibited at home, you can’t take it to the street. You haven’t paid for it (STNK) for two years, it’s locked “, said Interior Ministry Director General of Regional Financial Development, Agus Fatoni.
