Stings in nightclubs and festivals: a specific protocol implemented at the Dijon University Hospital

A specific protocol for the care of victims of stings during festive events has been put in place within the CHU Dijon Bourgogne (Côte-d’Or), he announced this Friday, also addressing a prevention message as festivals approach.

This protocol consists, in the event of suspicion of a bite, in particular of “rapid urine and blood samples for toxicological, biochemical and serological analyses”. A “observation of possible traces of bites” and the “taking of vital parameters” are also carried out. “Infectious care may be offered on a case-by-case basis,” he adds.

The CHU also recalls that the reception in the emergency department “is done at any time of the day and night”. “The cases treated in Dijon only took place in night establishments (nightclubs, dance bars, etc.), with no gender or age profile” and “there is no preferential injection site observed (arms, calves, legs, etc.), according to the hospital.

Recommendations for victims

While the Vyv festival is to be held on Saturday and Sunday in Dijon, the CHU “wished to share a prevention message for users”, advising people who suspect a syringe attack to “above all not urinate before taking charge” and to “reach an emergency service as soon as possible”.

An unexplained wave of injections has affected young people since the beginning of April in nightclubs, bars and festivals throughout France, with complaints lodged in particular in Lille, Béziers, Nantes, Rennes, Strasbourg, as well as in Grenoble, Nancy, Lyon , Besançon, Valence or Toulouse.
