Still Rare, How Can Xiaomi Face the Global Chip Crisis?

Alvin Tse, Country DIrector Xiaomi Indonesia

Currently, the automotive and technology industries are experiencing a shortage of chips, which are the most important components in their products. The shortage of chips is predicted to end in the next two years.

Country Director Xiaomi Indonesia Alvin Tse revealed the challenges and strategies of Xiaomi in dealing with the chip crisis which has become an issue in the technology and automotive world for the past two years.

“The (scarcity) of chips affects all industries. However, now it seems to have tended to stabilize. Later in Q2, Q3, and Q4, it is expected that there will be less supply-driven markets than demand-driven markets where we launch products according to consumer needs,” said tse.

The scarcity of that chip could take months to many places or companies. Tse hopes that the availability of chips can be more stable and encourage the company to provide the best products.

“Products that are demand-centric or according to consumer interest (will be our focus). If we focus on supply-centric, later if the product is not in demand, it will have a big impact because stock accumulates but there is no demand. So, we continue to try to make products with specifications and formulas that suit the needs of the community,” said Tse as reported by Antara.

Xiaomi launched its midrange phone, the Redmi Note 11 Series, which consists of three devices namely Redmi Note 11, Redmi Note 11 Pro, and Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G.

Xiaomi Indonesia is considered “late” to release the Redmi Note 11 series in the Indonesian market, considering that Xiaomi has released this device globally in January.

Last year, when Xiaomi released the Redmi Note 10 in March 2021, Xiaomi Indonesia immediately introduced the phone at the end of the same month.

“Why are we launching now? The answer is we want to make sure that we are ready from the supply chain and steady before launching this product,” said Tse.

“Furthermore, from the roadmap and experience we also want to be ready from that side, and the market. The market last year was not as ready as it is now. So, from these considerations, it’s better for us to be ready and present a device with good quality rather than launching it hurry,” he added.

The Redmi Note 11 Series brings stronger specifications and features in the camera system, charging speed, display, and SoC (System-on-a-Chip), which makes the performance of this smartphone more powerful to match the needs of users in the Indonesian market for smartphones that are excellent performance.

The device is priced starting from Rp. 2.4 million. Redmi Note 11 can be pre-ordered starting Tuesday (15/3) via mi.com and several e-commerce sites such as Shopee and Akulaku, or you can visit Erafone and Xiaomi Stores throughout Indonesia.

While the inaugural sale of the Redmi Note 11 will begin on March 22, 2022 and the Redmi Note 11 Pro Series on March 30, 2022.
