The new malfunction of DigiD is separate from last night’s DDoS attacks, says a spokesperson for Logius, which manages DigiD. “Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn’t. Our emergency team is working hard on a solution,” said the spokesperson.
Users who are having trouble logging in are advised to try again a little later.
If logging in to DigiD does not work, many online government services cannot be used. DigiD is the ‘digital passport’ that many government agencies use to check someone’s identity online.
DDoS attacks
DigiD was unavailable during the DDoS attacks on Monday evening, a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) reported. “So it could be that DigiD occasionally didn’t work for 10 minutes, then 15 minutes it did and then again for half an hour.”
The disruption started at the beginning of the evening and lasted until just after midnight. The spokesperson for the Interior and Kingdom Relations could not say whether a report will be made to the police.

Also Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram had a major outage last night. According to the BZK spokesperson, the DigiD malfunction was ‘completely unrelated’.
Government websites
Due to the DigiD malfunction, it was not possible to log in to government websites, such as the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) and the Education Executive Agency (DUO).
On municipal websites, a DigiD is required when applying for a passport or extract from the population register. Both companies and citizens can use it to sign their tax returns.
