Still no lawsuit about referendum Forum for Democracy, ‘it makes no sense’

There will be no lawsuit about the referendum at Forum for Democracy, in which Thierry Baudet was again elected party leader. It makes no sense, the three initiators now say.

The former party leaders of the party in Overijssel and Utrecht, Johan Almekinders and Wouter Weijers, and ex-candidate Member of Parliament Jan-Cees Vogelaar said on Friday that no proper referendum could be held, because the membership administration was not in order, among other things. There was also no independent supervision by a notary.

“With the holding of a so-called binding referendum yesterday a political fact took place within FvD. The party has become an empty shell. A lawsuit with an empty shell at stake makes no sense”, the three say in a statement.

However, support for other things

Almekinders, Weijers and Vogelaar announced on Friday that they wanted to file a lawsuit. The referendum was already underway at that point. The digital members’ consultation on party leadership was won over by founder Thierry Baudet.

FvD member Floor Drost will go to court to ensure that the party board is accountable. Almekinders, Weijers and Vogelaar are now going to support him in this, they have said.

In recent weeks, many representatives and candidate MPs broke with the party and Thierry Baudet. They were angry because insufficient action was taken within the Forum for Democracy against right-wing extremist and anti-Semitic statements in the youth club JFVD and because Baudet allegedly made inappropriate statements during a party meeting.
