Still long queues, but Schiphol says crowds are under control

Long queues in the departure halls at Schiphol Airport this weekend, but according to the airport, the crowds are manageable. “Things are going well now,” said a spokesperson.

The reason for this is that fewer passengers are leaving due to the end of the May holiday. Flights were also canceled again: KLM canceled eight outward and return flights. Several airlines moved a total of six flights to other airports this weekend.

Schiphol has deployed office staff at the airport to guide travelers and there is a canopy outside to make people more comfortable. However, travelers still have to take longer than usual waiting times into account.

Avoid chaos

The spokesperson says that it is examined daily how the crowds remain manageable. “It is difficult to say when it will calm down. We are now focusing on the May holiday.” Last Sunday, 70,000 passengers departed from the airport. Yesterday there were 57,000 and today 63,000.

Minister Harbers of Infrastructure called this weekend Schiphol to do everything in its power to ensure that chaos does not arise again in the summer. The airport says it is working on that.
