still in contention at the US Open 2020

There are only two Africans left in contention for the US Open 2020. One in each table. For women, Ons Jabeur has passed the first round. Just like Llyod Haris for men.

The Tunisian got rid of the Polish Katarzyna Kawa in two dry sets (6-2, 7-6). In the second round, Jabeur will face Estonian Kaia Kanepi.

South African Haris got the better of Italian Marco Cecchinato 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 on entry. In the second round, a harder piece with the Belgian David Goffin.

On the other hand, it’s over for Kevin Anderson. The 2017 US Open finalist was released in the 1st round on Sunday.

Same outcome for the Egyptian Mohamed Safwat who fell against the Frenchman Gilles Simon (1-6, 4-6, 4-6). it was the first appearance of an Egyptian in the tournament’s main draw since 1996.
